Dennitah Ghati

is a Kenyan Member of Parliament who was specifically chosen to represent people with disabilities. She is also the vice chairperson of the Kenya Disability Parliamentary Association.

Dennitah earned an MSc in Social Work and International Affairs from Columbia University, USA, thanks to a Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program fellowship. She also has a bachelor’s degree in

sociology from Kenyatta University and a postgraduate diploma in mass communication from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication. She is a graduate of the African Women’s Leadership Institute. Dennitah serves on the executive committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Kenya Branch, and she represented Kenya at the first-ever Global Disability Summit in London in 2018. She was also named to UN Women Africa’s “50 Inspiring Journey” list as a woman leader spearheading the empowerment of women and women with disabilities in Kenya’s sociopolitical sphere.

Dennitah was paralyzed in a car accident in 2014, just a year after being elected to Kenya’s parliament. Her duties as a disabled MP encouraged her to seek greater chances for the liberation of Kenyans with disabilities. This prompted her to establish the Dennitah Ghati Disability Foundation in 2017, which empowers persons with disabilities and children with disabilities, particularly at the grassroots level.

Dennitah is the happy mom of one child.
